Norwegian music industry’s export facilitator and promotional organisation.

Interview: Norwegian producer Payday

By Tina Brodal Posted: 28. May, 2020

Get to know one of Norway’s most sought-after rap producers.

He is one of the producers behind 6ix9ine’s latest single, “Gooba,” and has worked with big names like Megan Thee Stallion, Bad Bunny, Ugly God, Skepta and Octavian. It all started out with the online-producer selling beats online from his home in Bergen, something he has lived off the past two years.

– Everything happens over the internet, I send things over email or we make things together over IG camera etc, Payday says.

Can you name anyone you think has been extra cool producing for lately and how did these collaborations came about?

–I think all of them are great and I’m working with a bunch of artists. All of my collaborations have come about in different ways, but they often occur because the artists buy beats from me and then we develop a relationship and continue to work together.

“Gooba”, one of the latest songs he produced, just made it on to the Billboard Hot 100 chart. At the moment the producer is in negotiations to sign a publishing deal, and he has a manager and lawyer in the US who handles paperwork and other administrative matters.

Why do you think your exact sound has become so popular?

–Maybe just because I have a sound and try to stick to it.

His role models in the music industry are mostly foreign, however there are some talented people to watch out for in Norway at the moment.

–From Bergen I like Angelo Reira and Luna by new artists, he says.
